Social Media: Picture-Perfect

Three Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Social Media Images

First impressions count on social media — and they’re made in a split second through the image. Whether it’s Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Pinterest, our tips will help you create better visuals for social media. Great visuals are the key to grabbing attention, sparking emotion, and inspiring people to take action.

Here are three handy tips to help your social media posts perform better every time:

1. Think about formats — and the platform

Not every image works well everywhere. What shines on Instagram can get brutally cropped in the LinkedIn preview.(www.linkedin.com) .

  • Instagram Feed: 4:5 format with a recommended resolution of 1080 × 1350 pixels.
  • Instagram Stories / Reels & TikTok: 9:16
  • LinkedIn: 1.91:1 for classic link posts, 4:5 for image posts.
  • Pinterest: Portrait orientation! Ideally 2:3 or 1000 x 1500 pixels.

Tip: Create your images in multiple versions right away — or use tools like Canva (www.canva.com) or Adobe Express to quickly optimise them for each platform.

2. Use colours strategically.
Colours evoke emotions — and they can be used strategically to strengthen your brand message. Recognition is key!

Here's how:

  • Use consistent colours and filters
  • Use contrast deliberately to grab attention
  • Keep colour psychology in mind: blue means trust, red stands for energy, green signals sustainability, and so on.

Tip: Create your own little “Social Media Style Guide” with colour values, fonts, and image style. It builds consistency and saves you time in the long run.

3. Tell a story — with just one image
The best image isn’t the technically perfect one, but the one that tells a story. With every post, ask yourself:

"What do I want to show — and what should the viewer feel?“

Examples:

  • Don’t just show the product — show how it’s used, or better yet: the moment it creates.
  • Instead of a team photo, go for a behind-the-scenes shot with real atmosphere.
  • Instead of a quote graphic, use a personal portrait with a handwritten sentence.

So, with these tips, you’ll get better images on social media. And always remember:
People follow people — not glossy advertising.
