In a time when information hits us every second and every space seems filled with ads, text, or images, emptiness can feel like a design flaw. But it’s actually the opposite: white space — the deliberate choice of “nothing” — is a powerful design element used to create clarity, calm, and structure.

What exactly is white space?

White space, also called negative space, refers to all areas in a design that aren’t filled with content: no text, no images, no lines. The space doesn’t have to be white — it can be a coloured area, as long as it’s left empty.
It’s the space between elements — and often, it’s this that makes a design readable, understandable, and visually appealing.

Less content = more impact?

Yes, and it’s measurable. Studies in visual communication show that content surrounded by white space is noticed faster, remembered better, and seen as higher quality. White space guides the eye, structures content, slows down perception, and helps people pay more attention when reading or navigating.

In practice, this means:

Print design feels more elegant and calm thanks to white space.

Websites with good white space load faster, look tidier, and boost user satisfaction.

Brand appearances with bold minimalism come across as confident and modern.

White space isn’t accidental — it’s strategy.

Good design doesn’t leave things out because it has nothing to say. It carefully chooses what to show and what to leave out. Because everything has weight, and what gets space also gets more attention.

White space takes courage.

The biggest enemy of white space is the fear of “giving something away.” Many clients initially feel like, “Isn’t something missing?” But design isn’t about filling every gap — it’s communication with a plan.
A bold use of empty space shows that we make room for quality. And we trust our message to speak for itself without loud distractions.

The takeaway: The gap is the stage.

White space isn’t an empty mistake — it’s deliberately placed calm in the visual noise. In a world that’s overly styled, it might just be the boldest statement good design can make. Those who dare to leave gaps show strength, clarity — and confidence in their own design.

What small brands can learn from the big players

Big brands are everywhere. We know their logos in our sleep, and we almost casually quote their slogans: Just Do It or I'm Lovin' It. But what’s really behind all this? And more importantly, what can small brands learn from it?

The good news? Branding isn’t about size — it’s about attitude.

Brand clarity beats loudness.
Big brands feel so powerful because they have a clear identity: they know exactly what they stand for — and who they stand for. This sharpness isn’t a luxury, but a foundation that’s available to small brands too.
Tip: Ask yourself the three big W questions:

What do we stand for?

Who do we want to reach?

What really sets us apart?

Smaller brands can even have the upper hand here — they don’t have to deal with internal approvals or years of brand-core processes. They can just act straight away.

A brand is more than just a logo.

A consistent logo is important — but it’s just one building block. Big brands think in whole experiences: tone of voice, colours, visuals, behaviour, packaging, web design — everything works together.
Tip: Ask yourself with every design:

“Would you recognise it as ours even without the logo?”

Tell a story, not product features.

The most successful brands connect with us emotionally. They don’t just sell products — they tell stories, share values, and build relationships.

Example:
Patagonia doesn’t just talk about outdoor jackets — it’s about environmental protection, responsibility, and adventure.

Find your voice

Whether it’s funny like Netflix, clear like Apple, or playful like innocent smoothies — every big brand sounds unique. It’s no accident, but part of their branding.
Tip: Define a clear tone of voice for your brand and stick to it.

Formal or informal

Chill or serious?

Emotional or factual?

Consistency is your strongest branding tool.

Whether you experience a brand on Instagram, in a newsletter, or in-store — big brands stay true to themselves. This consistency builds trust.
Tip: Create simple design guidelines (colours, fonts, image style) and stick to them.

Your size is your strength.

Small brands are closer, more personal, and more flexible. Often, they’re more authentic too. You don’t have to do everything “perfectly” — but be honest, genuine, and clear. That alone can make all the difference. Use your closeness to your community and show your face. People prefer buying from people, not faceless corporations.

Branding isn’t about the budget — it’s about clarity and consistency. If you know what you stand for and communicate it consistently, you become a brand — even with a small team and a limited budget.

And let’s be honest: lots of big brands started out small too.

Three Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Social Media Images

First impressions count on social media — and they’re made in a split second through the image. Whether it’s Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, or Pinterest, our tips will help you create better visuals for social media. Great visuals are the key to grabbing attention, sparking emotion, and inspiring people to take action.

Here are three handy tips to help your social media posts perform better every time:

1. Think about formats — and the platform

Not every image works well everywhere. What shines on Instagram can get brutally cropped in the LinkedIn preview.(www.linkedin.com) .

Instagram Feed: 4:5 format with a recommended resolution of 1080 × 1350 pixels.

Instagram Stories / Reels & TikTok: 9:16

LinkedIn: 1.91:1 for classic link posts, 4:5 for image posts.

Pinterest: Portrait orientation! Ideally 2:3 or 1000 x 1500 pixels.

Tip: Create your images in multiple versions right away — or use tools like Canva (www.canva.com) or Adobe Express to quickly optimise them for each platform.

2. Use colours strategically.
Colours evoke emotions — and they can be used strategically to strengthen your brand message. Recognition is key!

Here's how:

Use consistent colours and filters

Use contrast deliberately to grab attention

Keep colour psychology in mind: blue means trust, red stands for energy, green signals sustainability, and so on.

Tip: Create your own little “Social Media Style Guide” with colour values, fonts, and image style. It builds consistency and saves you time in the long run.

3. Tell a story — with just one image
The best image isn’t the technically perfect one, but the one that tells a story. With every post, ask yourself:

"What do I want to show — and what should the viewer feel?“

Examples:

Don’t just show the product — show how it’s used, or better yet: the moment it creates.

Instead of a team photo, go for a behind-the-scenes shot with real atmosphere.

Instead of a quote graphic, use a personal portrait with a handwritten sentence.

So, with these tips, you’ll get better images on social media. And always remember:
People follow people — not glossy advertising.

Der Beitrag Social Media: Perfekte Bilder erschien zuerst auf Gipfelgold.

Bureaucracy and the problems associated with public tenders are no longer a marginal issue for many companies, but a real obstacle, especially in the communications and creative industries. Although transparent tendering procedures make sense in principle, the formalities, evidence and effort required are often disproportionate to the order volume.

Problems and bureaucracy start right at the beginning

Let's imagine we need a new company car - let's say an electric van for around €65,000, including optional extras.
And let's imagine we were to formulate such a ‘public tender’:

Dear Car Dealerships
We are pleased that you are taking part in the public tender. Please submit the following documents with your offer:

Overview of qualifications, including language skills and certificates of your employees, suppliers, etc.

Turnover figures for the past three years

Proof of insurance (minimum €5 million coverage)

Excerpt from the commercial register

Evidence of minimum wage payment and adherence to collective bargaining agreements

Confirmation that the management has no criminal convictions, no associations with Scientology, and no partnerships with Russian entities

A 20-page proposal that covers all costs for the next 6 years, along with a plan for positioning your model in the mobility landscape

Three references from clients, including their contact details

Submit a material sample of the seat covers in a sealed envelope

A 30-minute vehicle presentation by the managing director in Berlin (since our CEO will be in the city with his family on the planned date)

A 15-minute discussion on the pros and cons of the presented model

Deadline for submissions is in two weeks, at 10:00 AM. You can only participate if you’ve registered in writing.

We look forward to receiving your offer!

——————————————————————————

That would be absurd, right?

€12,000 worth of bureaucratic effort and work for free

Well – that’s exactly the reality for agencies facing all the bureaucracy and numerous issues in public tenders related to communication, design, and marketing. Even with budgets around €20,000. And since we’re talking about numbers:
On average, a pitch costs each agency €12,000 – even before they are selected as a finalist. If we also assume that five agencies are invited (in most cases, it’s many more), we quickly arrive at the following equation:

€12,000 x 5 agencies = €60,000.
€60,000, going to waste, not contributing to the GDP, just fading away! Such a paradox! And that’s not even enough.
Every state – in some cases, each municipality – has its own platform (https://evergabe.nrw.de/VMPCenter/company/welcome.do). Digitalisation? Sadly, often just in theory. Those who navigate the maze of tender portals might, with a bit of luck, gain access to 15–20 poorly formatted Word or PDF documents. Fillable? Sometimes. Digital signature? Often unavailable. The standard procedure: Print, sign, scan, upload. Welcome to Germany in the 21st century!

What needs to change in public tenders: Reducing bureaucracy

It’s about appropriate proportionality: Evidence of competence and experience (https://gipfelgold.de/portfolio/) are definitely essential and sensible for certain budget sizes – after all, the world’s longest bridge shouldn’t be built by a drywaller – but they must remain within reasonable limits.

Unified, central platforms – intuitive, digital, transparent.

Proportionality of requirements – depending on volume and complexity.

Real digitalisation, not a digital alibi.

Otherwise, access to the public market remains closed to many good small agencies – not due to incompetence, but because of a lack of time and cost-effectiveness.

Der Beitrag PITCH PLEASE erschien zuerst auf Gipfelgold.

Colour Trends 2025
Design, Colour Impact, and Communication

Colours significantly influence our perception and emotions. They convey messages, create moods, and set trends. In 2025, two standout shades will be at the forefront: Windsor Wine and Mocha Mousse.

Windsor Wine: The General Colour Trend of 2025

Windsor Wine is a deep wine red that exudes warmth, sophistication, and grandeur. This colour is ideal for design areas such as interior design, fashion, and digital media. It represents elegance, sensuality, and depth, and is often used in high-end and exclusive designs.

To complement Windsor Wine perfectly, the following colour palettes are recommended:

Sudan Brown – A warm earth brown that conveys naturalness and stability.

Rain Forest – A deep fir green that creates a contrasting yet harmonious effect.

Passion Flower – A muted violet that represents creativity and romance.

Cocoon – A soft beige with rosy undertones, creating a gentle and elegant combination.

Pantone Colour of the Year 2025: Mocha Mousse

Pantone has chosen 'Mocha Mousse' (PANTONE 17-1230) as the Colour of the Year 2025. This warm, earthy brown evokes the comforting feel of chocolate and coffee. It conveys calm, stability, and security – an important aspect in an increasingly hectic world.

Pantone suggests various harmonious colour combinations for Mocha Mousse:

Warm sand and beige tones – For a calming, natural look.

Soft pastel tones – Create a soft and elegant colour scheme.

Deep green tones – For an earthy, nature-inspired look.

Dark blue tones – Create an elegant contrast and give a modern feel.

Gold and copper tones – Enhance the luxurious effect of Mocha Mousse.

Conclusion: Colours with Impact

While Windsor Wine represents depth, elegance, and expressiveness, Mocha Mousse brings a natural, calming element into play. Those who use colours strategically can set trends and leave lasting impressions.

Design Trends 2025/2026
What Shapes the Future of Graphic Design

The world of design is constantly evolving – trends come and go, but some leave a lasting mark on aesthetics and communication. For 2025/2026, clear developments are emerging in graphic and communication design that businesses and creatives should keep an eye on. Here are the key trends for the coming years:

1. Artificial Intelligence as a Creative Partner

AI is revolutionising the creative process. Designers are increasingly using tools powered by machine learning to offer personalised and innovative design solutions. From automated layouts to generative art – AI is becoming a tool to refine and enhance one's own creativity.

2. Organic and Fluid Shapes

The trend towards natural and soft forms continues: flowing lines, asymmetrical compositions, and organic textures. This aesthetic conveys a sense of dynamism and naturalness, and is especially popular in branding and web design. Complementing this is the rise of the Aurora Gradient– a soft, blended colour effect that adds depth and vibrancy to designs.

3. Bold Colour Palettes and Futuristic Gradients

Intense, high-contrast colours and futuristic gradients are being used more frequently to give brands a modern and eye-catching identity. Colour psychology is playing an increasingly important role in deliberately guiding emotions in digital communication.

4. Typography as the Main Player

Typography is becoming a design element in its own right. Creative, hand-drawn fonts, experimental layouts, and oversized type are setting new standards, particularly in brand communication and illustration.

5. Sustainability in Design

Companies are embracing eco-friendly printing techniques, minimalist designs with minimal ink, and resource-saving production methods to visually convey their values.

6. Mixed Media & 3D Illustrations

The mix of 2D and 3D elements offers new visual possibilities. Photography, illustrations, and 3D renderings merge to create impressive and lifelike designs. This trend is gaining importance, particularly in advertising and UI design. The Hyper-Realistic Designtrend also plays a role here – ultra-detailed and almost tangible representations provide an immersive experience.

7. Retro-Futurism

Inspired by the early 2000s, retro-futurism is making a comeback in modern interpretations. Chrome textures, shine effects, and 8-bit elements are being used in new, stylised designs. This aesthetic particularly appeals to younger audiences. Anaglyph Effects, such as overlapping colours reminiscent of 3D glasses, further enhance this trend.

8. Characters in Branding

More and more brands are turning to unique, hand-drawn or 3d-animated characters to strengthen their brand personality. These figures create an emotional connection with the target audience, making brand communication more relatable and memorable.

9. Innovative Layouts: Bento Box & Neumorphism

The Bento Box Layout, inspired by Japanese lunch boxes, divides content into structured yet flexible sections. This creates a clear, visually appealing design, particularly used for websites and apps. Complementing this, Neumorphism is making a comeback– a design style that uses soft shadows and subtle 3D effects to create a modern yet minimalist aesthetic.

10. Dark Mode Design

Dark mode remains a dominant trend, as it is not only visually appealing but also eye-friendly and energy-efficient. More and more websites, apps, and digital platforms are adopting dark colour schemes with bright contrasts to present content in a stylish and modern way.

Conclusion: Forward-Thinking Design with an Emotional Connection

The design trends for 2025/2026 represent a combination of technological innovation and emotional aesthetics. Businesses and creatives should keep an eye on these developments to ensure their communication is visually appealing and contemporary. Those who see design not just as a stylistic tool, but as a strategic form of communication, will successfully leverage the trends of the future.

Authentic Brand Building
How Companies Create a Consistent Image that Engages Employees and Customers and Increases the Value of the Business

Authentic Brand Building is the key! Companies that clearly define and consistently implement their corporate identity build an image that runs through all communication channels. But how can a brand be designed in such a way that it feels authentic while also strategically shaping its external perception?

The Importance of Corporate Personality

Every brand has its own identity – a corporate personality that reflects its values, mission, goals, and vision. This identity should not be artificially constructed, but rather derived from the genuine beliefs and values of the company.

Coherence in Design and Communication

A central element of brand building is corporate design. Logos, colours, fonts, and imagery should speak a unified visual language. However, design alone is not enough – the communication, behaviour, and language of the company must align as well.

Consistency Across All Channels

Whether it's online marketing, traditional advertising, or personal customer interactions – all touchpoints with the brand should convey a consistent image. Inconsistencies between different channels can weaken trust in the brand. A coherent brand communication ensures that the desired image is anchored in the minds of consumers and shapes the brand both internally and externally.

Targeted Image Management

An authentic brand is not created by chance, but through targeted and conscious management of its external image. Storytelling is a powerful tool in this regard, helping to make the corporate personality tangible and evoke emotions in the target audience. In the sea of competitors, it's crucial to be identified as a brand and differentiated from others.

Conclusion: Authenticity as the Key to Success

Brand building is a holistic process that runs through all areas of the business. Only when a brand is authentic and credibly communicates its values can it be successful in the long term and strategically shape the desired image.

Dare to have edges and corners, for it is through these that you will be recognised, remembered, and ultimately acknowledged.
